Mirena Bagur was born and raised in Croatia in the small town of Metkovic, the Dubrovnik-Neretva county in Dalmatia. For generations, her family contributed and enjoyed the rich culture of the region where Mirena not only breathed the rosemary and lavender-scented fresh breeze of Dalmatian air but also inhaled the wine must of the grape harvest and the salty aromas of the Adriatic Sea.

Mirena nurtured her passion for Croatian culture at home where locals passed down tradition through stories and song. Her parents preserved and refined traditions for dance, songs, and costume in the Neretva region. While her grandfather tended to his acres of Plavac Mali vineyards, where as a young girl she helped harvest the grapes and transporting them by donkey cart to his winemaking konoba.

She served as a lead female dancer in the Metkovic folk dance group in high school, and in college joined a prominent Zagreb dance group, performing in numerous throughout Croatia and internationally.

Mirena’s journey eventually brought her to the United States where today she calls the Boston area home. There she still holds on to her cultural heritage as a member of Pajdasi, a band and choir focused on Croatian folk songs. Plus, for the last 14 years Mirena has served as president of New England Friends of Croatia, a non-profit focused on creating awareness about Croatia in New England, and as a member of The Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP) where she participates in the medical task force.

After a career in global marketing communications, Mirena turned her entrepreneurial spirit to founding Boston-based CONTeXO Group, a consultancy for a wide variety of technology-inspired start-up companies. She has served on a number of advisory boards in the Boston area including The Capital Network, the MIT Enterprise Forum, and The Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council. After ten years, she continues to serve as course co-director for the joint Harvard-MIT Division of Health, Sciences, and Technology course, “Enabling Technology Innovation in Health Care System and the Life Sciences.

Among the many things Mirena does to keep busy and challenged, most recently she and her husband founded Croatian Premium Wine, an importer, distributor, and direct sales firm focused on educating people about and promoting Croatian wine.
